Important Information for Illinois Policyholders Affected by recent flooding in the counties of Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry.
On July 14, 2017, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner declared the counties of Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry to be state disaster areas as a result of heavy flooding. To help ensure that Illinois consumers affected by this disaster do not suffer unnecessary hardship, American National (and other insurance companies) will not issue cancellation or non-renewal notices to any existing affected policyholders in Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties for the period of time beginning July 12, 2017 until September 30, 2017.
During this period, any cancellation or non-renewal notice issued on any in-force policy issued to an affected policyholder or respecting affected property shall be withdrawn and the insurance policy will be reinstated with no lapse in coverage. Normal cancellation and non-renewal procedures will resume September 30, 2017. In addition, affected policyholders will be granted an extension of any provisions that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act for 60 days.
If an affected policyholder should have a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue, they may contact the Illinois Department of Insurance toll-free complaint hotline at 1-866-445-5364, or file a complaint online at: https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf.
