Information We Collect and How We Use It
Personal information is any information that identifies you or your personal accounts. Personal information may include the following: (1) a first and last name; (2) a home or other physical address, including street name and name of a city or town; (3) an e-mail address; (4) a telephone number; (5) a social security number; (6) any other identifier that permits the physical or online contacting of a specific individual; (7) information concerning a user that a mobile app or online service collects online from the user and maintains in personally identifiable form in combination with an identifier listed above.
As a general principle, American National will not automatically collect personal information from users of its mobile apps. Personal information is collected only when knowingly and voluntarily submitted by you. We may collect certain non-personal information to optimize our mobile app web pages (e.g., crash reports, navigation paths or usage statistics). To do this, we are using third party software for data collection. We may use such non-personal information for internal purposes, including but not limited to improving your access to and the content of our mobile apps.
We will ask for your name and email address when you fill out an American National information request form and when you request other services that require registration, such as subscribing to American National E-mail Updates. This information is used for a variety of business purposes, including quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and to upgrade website advertising and product content to better serve you and your insurance needs.
When you download or use American National’s mobile apps, we may receive information about your location and your mobile device, including a unique identifier for your device, device settings, and analytical information about how you use your mobile device. This information helps us provide you with location-based services, search results, and other personalized content. If you do not want us to use information revealing your location, you may be able to change your location setting on your mobile device to prevent the sharing of that information. Please note that certain features may not function properly or at all as a result if you disable these settings.
We may also send you push notifications to provide you updates and other service-related information. If you wish to opt-out from receiving these types of communications, you may disable them at the device level.
We maintain appropriate physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to maintain the confidentiality and security of your personal information. We will not sell or disclose personal information you submit through the mobile app to any non-affiliated third parties for marketing purposes. In addition, we hold our employees and business partners to strict standards when collecting, reviewing or working with your personal information. In certain circumstances it may be necessary to disclose user information in order to identify, contact or bring legal action against persons causing injury to or interfering with your rights, our rights, or the rights of other users of this mobile app and our services. No such disclosure will be made, however, unless American National believes in good faith that such disclosure is required by law.
Your American National account is password protected so that only you can access it and view information relevant to your account. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. No authorized representative of American National will ever ask you for your password in an unsolicited contact, telephone call or email. Ultimately, you are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and any account information.
Please remember to sign out of or log off your American National account and close your mobile app when you have finished accessing your account. This will help ensure that others cannot access your personal information and correspondence if your mobile device is accessible to them or you share it with someone else.
American National uses certain technology and has taken steps to try and encrypt or otherwise protect your information. However, we cannot guarantee the security of all data transmitted over the internet. Although American National strives to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products and services. These transmissions are undertaken at your own risk.
