On February 21, Change Healthcare experienced a cybersecurity issue that resulted in several of their services being taken offline. This event in turn has impacted the health claims operations of American National, which utilizes Change Healthcare for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions pertaining to health claims. Impacted American National companies include American National Insurance Company and American National Life Insurance Company of Texas. Certain health policies issued by Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and administered by American National Insurance Company were also impacted by this event.
As of April 25, 2024, American National is able to receive electronic claims via Change Healthcare.
As of May 16, 2024, American National is able to provide member eligibility and benefits information as well as claims status and disposition information to providers electronically.
As a result, American National considers that the interruption to our Change Healthcare services has ended, and that our health claims operations have returned to normal.
If you are a healthcare provider that is still experiencing issues, you may continue to submit claims to American National by paper or fax, and you may continue to contact our call center at 1-800-899-6520 for inquiries related to member eligibility and benefits as well as claims status and claims disposition.

As of April 25, 2024, American National is able to receive electronic claims via Change Healthcare.
Additionally, American National uses Change Healthcare's services to facilitate the verification of member eligibility and benefits. We also return information regarding claims status and final disposition to providers via Change Healthcare. We have not been able to provide eligibility or send final disposition information via Change Healthcare since February 21, and we continue to work with Change Healthcare to restore these services.
As a temporary measure, American National has implemented the following alternative method for obtaining information about member eligibility and benefits, claims status, and final claims disposition:

Specifically, American National employs Change Healthcare's services to facilitate claims processing and verify benefits eligibility. We receive claims data from healthcare providers through Change Healthcare and send information regarding claims status and final disposition back to providers via the same channel. We have not been able to send or receive such information via Change Healthcare since February 21.
As a temporary measure, American National has implemented alternative methods for submitting claims:
