We are committed to diversity in the workplace and have long believed that diversity can enhance board effectiveness, improve corporate governance, and create the potential for greater long-term value for financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Frances Moody-Dahlberg served on our Board of Directors 1987-2022.

We have steadily increased our efforts to seek out diverse talent, develop and promote women and our Black, Indigenous, People of Color population in support of a more inclusive workplace. 

  • Women are represented in 61% of positions across the company
  • Black, Indigenous, People of Color represent over 26% of the workforce

Since 2016,

  • The percentage of women in leadership has grown from 51% to 55%; representation in officer positions grew from 25% to 34%
  • Black, Indigenous, People of Color represented in leadership has grown from 16% to 20%; representation in officer positions grew from 6% to 10% 

Through our “ACE” (Agility, Collaboration and Engagement) efforts, we promote diverse discussion and value ideas from all employees on how to work more effectively.  Our corporate values drive who we are, which is directly related to the high marks for ethics we receive from our employees. Commitment in action

We are focused on creating actionable initiatives that create a culture of inclusiveness and equality.

  1. Leadership Development - We offer leadership training to employees specifically designed to develop a diverse and dynamic group of emerging leaders.
  2. Women's Leadership Forum - Our Women’s Leadership Forum was created in 2018 for female leaders to discuss important issues and share advice for working and advancing within American National.
  3. Texas Competes - American National was an early member of Texas Competes, which is a partnership of business leaders that is welcoming to people in the LGBTQIA+ community.
  4. Celebrate Diversity - We value employee individuality and identity. We observe national diversity commemorative months that provide employees with educational resources to enhance awareness and understanding.
