HOUSTON, TX – American National employees joined thousands of volunteers across the country Sept. 11 as part of the national 9/11 Day UNIITE For Good initiative, turning a day of remembrance into a day of service. At the Fertitta Center at the University of Houston, employees helped pack meals for local food banks and community organizations, contributing to a nationwide effort spanning 51 cities. Approximately 300,000 meals were packed to help support families facing food insecurity.
"As we mark the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, we are reminded that some of the most meaningful ways to honor the day are through kindness, service and support for others," said Tim Walsh, president and chief executive officer of American National. "I'm proud of our employees for dedicating their time to an effort that will benefit families across our community. Their willingness to give back reflects the caring spirit that is an important part of who we are as a company."
Community involvement is an important part of American National's culture. Through volunteerism, charitable initiatives and community partnerships, employees contribute their time and talents to organizations and causes that strengthen the communities where they live and work. As part of that commitment, American National provides employees with one paid volunteer day annually, giving them the flexibility to support causes that are meaningful to them.
Senior identity and data governance specialist Bianca Nadeem said, "I remember exactly where I was 25 years ago today. Having the opportunity to use our volunteer day to give back and honor the significance of the day is something I deeply appreciate."
In addition to meal-packing events, 9/11 Day encourages individuals across the country to participate in acts of service, both large and small, to honor those affected by the events of Sept. 11 and help strengthen communities through collective action.
